Driver Charged With Felony DUI for Fatal Chicago Crash

by Levin & Perconti

Earlier today, MyFoxChicago.com released a news report detailing the criminal charges an 18-year-old Chicago woman faces for her role in a fatal Sunday car accident. Our Chicago car accident lawyers learned that the accident in question transpired early Sunday morning on the 4400 block of South Archer Avenue when the woman attempted to make a left turn at South Sawyer Avenue. However, the driver failed to yield to an additional passenger vehicle headed south on Archer – ultimately resulting in severe injury sustained to both passenger vehicle drivers and their passengers.

The 28-year-old driver of the other passenger vehicle was taken to an area hospital where he was later pronounced dead shortly after. A subsequent autopsy performed on the victim revealed that the 28-year-old died of multiple injuries from a motor vehicle collision and his death was ultimately ruled an accident. Two of the accident victim’s passengers were also injured as a result of the collision and required advanced medical attention. Both remain in critical condition. A male passenger in the 18-year-old’s care was also taken to an area hospital where he remains in critical condition.

The 18-year-old driver was initially charged with misdemeanor DUI, however, our Chicago car accident attorneys learned that the DUI charge has been upgraded to a felony aggravated DUI for her role in the tragic accident. During a bond hearing earlier today, a judge ordered the 18-year-old to be held on a $10,000 bond. The woman faces additional citations including failure to yield the right of way while turning left, driving without a driver’s licenses, as well as, driving without insurance.
