Trucking accidents are extremely dangerous for both drivers and passengers on the road. Crashes that fall under this distinction involve large tractor trailers weighing in excess of 10,000 lbs., and because of their massive frames and heavy cargos, most other automobiles don’t stand a chance when involved in a collision. Roughly 500,000 trucking accidents occur every year in the United States, and of these some 5,000 result in fatalities. However, trucking is a huge business, and the United States economy earns well over $600 billion in annual revenues from shipping, so it is safe to say these trailers will be on the road for a long time. Earlier this week, a Boone County truck accident shut down State Road 47 for three hours, and left one dead.
The crash happened just before 7 a.m., when a semi truck driver lost control on State Road 47, causing him to careen off the road. According to reports from the Boone County Sheriff’s Office, the semi then crossed the centerline, striking a 2002 GMC pick up truck head on. The driver of the GMC, a 19-year-old man, was pronounced dead at the scene. Police worked until roughly 10 a.m. redirecting traffic in the area and clearing the area for emergency crews. (FOX59)
According to recent statistics from the Illinois Department of Transportation, there are over 9,000 trucking accidents in our state every year. Even though our firm is headquartered in Chicago, our truck accident lawyers serve clients from all over Illinois to recover compensation for serious personal injuries and loss of life. Recently, our attorneys settled a $6.5 million trucking accident for the family of a young woman who had been killed after being rear-ended by a semi-truck driver. Our clients, the woman’s husband and son, also experienced extensive injuries in the collision. Our team was able to prove that the driver of the truck was under the influence of marijuana, and was operating an over-loaded, unsafe truck, in violation of multiple federal regulations.
This case is just one example of the hundreds of cases that we take on every year. Since 1992, our lawyers have recovered more than $520 million dollars for clients and families, allowing them to pay their medical bills, make up for lost wages, and pay for future healthcare costs. We know how damaging a motor vehicle accident can be, and we have the experience and resources needed to take on large corporations to ensure that you and your family get fair compensation for the harms caused to you. If you or someone you know has been a victim of a trucking accident, or any other type of malpractice or personal injury matter, call us to discuss what legal options may be available to you.
