Ralph Lewis, who two years ago led police in a deadly high speed chase, now stands trial for the death he caused after crashing an allegedly stolen U-Haul into another car. July 23, 2006, Lewis had attempted to buy thousands of dollars worth of merchandise in Gurnee, Illinois, when a cashier at Home Depot suspected Lewis’ driver’s license was fake and called police. A police chase ensued in which Lewis ran a red light and crashed the truck into a car carrying 16 year-old Corey Diamond and two of his friends. Diamond, sitting in the passenger seat, was killed, his friends were both injured. Lewis is facing charges of first-degree murder, battery, theft, and unlawful restraint. It is not clear whether Diamond’s family has or will file a wrongful death lawsuit in connection with the deadly accident. Read more here.
