Several weeks ago, an Illinois man was charged with reckless homicide and aggravated DUI after his speeding vehicle rear-ended a car, causing it to cross the center lane and collide with a truck head-on. The car accident killed a 26-year-old man, his 24-yr-old wife and their unborn child.
The intoxicated driver who caused this accident had been arrested several times in the past for driving under the influence. According to a police affidavit filed March 10, the driver asked police how many people he had killed shortly after the car accident occurred. The affidavit also revealed that the driver’s blood alcohol level was .191, more than twice the legal limit. The article did not indicate that the victims’ families had filed a lawsuit against the driver at this time.
