Arlington Heights Woman Killed in Two-Vehicle Accident Near Richmond, Illinois

Last week, an Illinois car accident lawyer at our firm read a report about a fatal two-vehicle accident that occurred on Saturday near Richmond. Crystallake.patch.com stated that around 12pm, a 68 year-old woman of Arlington Heights was traveling westbound on U.S. Route 12 when her jeep allegedly crossed the center line of the road and sideswiped a pick up truck traveling eastbound, driven by a 75 year-old male of Lancaster, South Carolina. The jeep then collided with a fifth wheel recreational trailer pulled by the truck, which detached upon impact and rolled over in a nearby ditch. Both the jeep and the pickup truck came to rest on the roadway.

The report states that the police departments from Richmond, Spring Grove, and McHenry immediately responded to the scene. The Richmond Fire Protection Department was also called to extinguish a fire that was momentarily started in the Jeep after the accident. The McHenry County Coroner’s Office released that the woman was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident. The driver of the pick up truck, as well as a 75-year old passenger, were treated and released at the scene. Authorities say all occupants were wearing safety belts and the airbag systems were deployed in both vehicles. The accident is still under investigation by police and the McHenry County Accident Investigation Unit.

Our Chicago car accident lawyers understand that accidents similar to the one above are very common and often fatal on Illinois roadways, generally taking place when a vehicle either deliberately or accidently crosses a centerline or median of the road, travels the wrong way in a traffic lane, and crashes into an approaching vehicle. Just last Wednesday, a vehicle traveling south in the northbound of Interstate 57 in Union County collided head on with another vehicle, resulting in two sets of injuries and two fatalities. A third fatal accident occurred a few months ago when a 21-year old college student from Burr Ridge, Illinois was driving the wrong way on southbound I-55 and collided head on with a semi truck, killing him upon impact.

Police objectives to reduce the number of head-on accidents in Illinois currently include attempting to find ways to keep vehicles from traveling into the opposite lane, minimizing the likelihood of a car crashing into an oncoming vehicle, and ultimately reducing the severity of accidents that occur. Our Illinois car accident attorneys understand that not all accidents are preventable, and that car accidents caused by distracted or negligent drivers can cause life-altering consequences to those involved, including personal injury, medical expenses, or even property damage.
