Vehicle hits L Support Beam on Lake Street in Fatal New Years Accident

For many New Years day is a time of new beginnings and hope for things to come. However, for many of the families that have had loved ones killed or injured in the most dangerous driving week of the year, it is a time of great grief and sorrow. Each year, 400-500 fatalities occur on American roadways during New Years day alone, so it is incredibly important to exercise caution when getting from point A to point B. Today, two people were killed and another was critically injured when a car crashed into one of the L trains steel support columns in the West Garfield Park neighborhood of Chicago. The accident occurred in the early hours of the morning, just before 5:00 a.m., in the 4500 block of West Lake Street. Authorities report that the vehicle had been heading east on Lake when it hit the large support beam, ejecting one of its passengers and catching fire. Both the driver and a passenger in the front seat of the automobile were pronounced dead at the scene, and another individual had to be transported to nearby Mount Sinai Hospital, where they remain in critical condition.
