It’s New Years Eve everyone! It’s time to celebrate the approach of 2013 with your friends and family, and cram as much fun into 2012 as you can before the clock strikes midnight. However, while you celebrate law enforcement officials across the country will be hard at work keeping our roadways safe.
Our Chicago accident lawyers want to remind drivers that while the end of the year is cause for fun and celebration, it is still important to focus on safety. Whether your plan is to stay in and play host or you’re heading off to a party, following a few simple safety tips can help you make sure that everyone around you will be able to ring in the New Year safe and sound.
• Designate a Driver: This cannot be stressed enough, don’t drink and drive. Last year, almost half of all car accident fatalities were at the hands of drivers who tested positive for drugs and alcohol. Additionally, over 1.41 million drivers were arrested in 2010 for driving while under the influence. Don’t get you or anyone else injured, and don’t ring in 2013 in jail. • Be Alert: Even if you are driving sober, or not driving at all, it is important to always be aware of your surroundings. Stay away from people who are out of control, and watch out for the reckless or negligent actions of other people on the road.
• Stick Together: Watch out for your friends by calling them a cab if they have had one too many. Calling a cab is always safer than letting a friend be driven home by someone they don’t know.
• Monitor Your Own Behavior: A majority of people will be drinking on New Year’s Eve, and as long as this is done responsibly that isn’t a problem. Just make sure you are cognizant of how much you and others are consuming, and be smart; again, watch out for your friends.
Reckless driving accidents, negligent driving accidents, drunk driving accidents, these are all things that make our roadways dangerous year round. However, the fatalities and injuries resulting from these three types of accidents experience a huge spike during the holiday season, culminating in tonight.
As responsible citizens, it is your job to do everything you can to keep yourself and your loved ones safe. While this significantly increases your chance of having a safe New Years Eve, we can’t ever be completely impervious to the actions of others. As Chicago car accident lawyers (car accident page which is different than main accident page https://www.levinperconti.com/lawyer-attorney-1090340.html) it is our job to help our clients when the carelessness of others results in serious injury or wrongful death.
Here’s wishing everyone a happy and safe start to 2013!
