With the winter season descending upon the city, new challenges will soon face drivers in their attempt to remain safe on the road. With cold weather typically comes snow and ice. Chicagoans are used to dealing with an abundance of both for the several months when cold weather descends upon the area. Yet no matter how experienced city drivers may be with tough conditions, many often fall victims to weather-induced accidents.
Car accidents are already occurring as a result of the change in season. WGN Breaking News reported on one of those crashes earlier this week. Six people were injured in a crash on the city’s far south side. Four victims were in serious to critical condition, while two other has less threatening injuries.
Shortly before 10pm on Thanksgiving night icy road conditions caused our vehicles to become tangled in a wreck. The multi-car accident struck near East 130th Street and South Stony Island Avenue. The specifics of the accident remain unclear, but emergency personnel believe that ice on the road played a major role. Salt trucks were dispatched to the area shortly after the crash.
Our Chicago car crash lawyers at Levin & Perconti encourage all drivers to take the extra precautions necessary to drive carefully in the winter months. The usual methods apply: steady speeds, not driving too closely, use of safety belts, and the like. Also it is vital for drivers to ensure that their car is kept in proper working order so that the cold and extreme weather does not damage the machine and cause an accident.
