Illinois Bill Proposed to Ban Text-Messaging While Driving

The Illinois legislature has proposed a bill to ban text messaging while driving in Illinois. Texting while driving has led to many Illinois car accidents, as a result of the driver’s distraction away from the road. In order to reduce the number of Chicago car accidents, the city of Chicago currently bans all phone usage while driving (unless hands-free). The proposed bill shows that the state of Illinois may be moving in the same direction as the city. Several drivers interviewed by The Herald News said that texting while driving is a concern to them and that they would be happy to see a bill pass that banned texting, hoping that it would reduce car accidents and help drivers stay focused on the road.
