Two Illinoisans Killed in Car Crash on I-65

The Chicago Tribune posted yesterday on yet another deadly highway accident that took the lives of two Illinois residents.

The crash occurred in northwest Indiana at 5:30am on Friday morning. The two victims were traveling in their car on Interstate 65, south of the Indiana 10 interchange near the town of Demotte. The specific source of the accident is unknown, because for reasons still to be determined, the 68-year old driver crossed the grassy median of the highway and went head-on into traffic headed north on the same highway.

The car ended up in the path of a semi-trailer who was unable to stop before smashing into the car. Both the driver and his 46-year old passenger were pronounced dead at the scene by emergency responders. The truck driver was not hurt in the car wreck.

Our Chicago car accident lawyers at Levin & Perconti repeat our hope that all drivers take extra care this winter season when on the roadways. The city is now covered in snow and temperatures are expected to remain low for the foreseeable future. As a result the roadways will be slippery and visibility will be limited. This requires a stepped up effort to remain safe when behind the wheel.

Unfortunately, there remains the chance that you may become involved in a car accident caused by the negligence of another. Besides wearing safety belts and ensuring that the airbags are properly installed, there is nothing that drivers can do to protect themselves completely from car crashes caused by others. If you happen to suffer injury in that way, be sure to contact a car crash lawyer to protect your rights and hold the offender accountable.
