Woman Charged with DUI in Fatal Chicago Car Accident

Let’s start with the good news. The most recent drunk driving statistics show a 64% decrease in alcohol-impaired fatalities since 1982, which was the first year records were collected. Law makers, street level bureaucrats, and many special interest groups have taken it upon themselves to lead the fight against drunk driving, and by the looks of it, it’s working. (Century Council)

The bad news is that we may not be out of the woods just yet. Roughly one third of all car accidents in America are still alcohol related, and over 1.41 million drivers were arrested in 2010 for driving under the influence of alcohol or narcotics. We are making great strides, but make no mistake, drunk driving is still a huge problem in the United States, one that claims the lives of countless innocent drivers every year. Our lawyers know that we can’t stop everyone from choosing to drive home after they have had too many, but the fight against drunk driving continues to be fought because we know that every year these campaigns save a few more lives. (National Highway Traffic Safety Administration)

Over the weekend, an intoxicated driver struck two people in Chicago’s Parkview neighborhood, killing both. Police report that the victims were outside of their vehicle changing a tire just before 11 p.m. when the drunk driver’s vehicle swerved across the road and collided with both of them. The 27-year-old driver is being charged with two counts of driving under the influence, reckless driving, and multiple other felonies and misdemeanors, according to officials. (Chicago Tribune)

The sad truth is that out of every ten Americans, three will be involved in an alcohol related car accident at some point in their life. Every 48 minutes or so another person’s life is ended because of the reckless actions of drunk or under the influence drivers, totally roughly 12,000 for the year. (Mothers Against Drunk Driving)

Our lawyers know better than most people the emotional and physical damage that can be caused by people who drink and drive. Imagine being relegated to a hospital bed, unable to return to work and bring in the money necessary to support you and your family, and with mounting medical bills to worry about. Pretty scary right?

Our attorneys are experienced, and want to help you back on your feet. We’ve settled cases covering a wide array of personal injury issues, including those stemming from driving under the influence. Recently, our lawyers recovered a $6.5 million settlement for the family of a 32-year-old woman who was killed when a driver under the influence of marijuana struck their pick-up truck. While this money could never repair the damage of losing a wife and mother, it ensured our clients did not continue to suffer because of the carelessness of a reckless driver.

If you or a loved one has been injured because of a drunk driver, contact us for a free consultation, and please remember, don’t ever drive if you think you’ve had too many.
