Chicago Rush Hours Increase Chances for Highway Accidents

Are you one of those people that just love the thrill of waking up for your morning commute and not knowing whether you are going to make it to work on time? The answer is probably no, and you would be in the majority on that one. If you are a Chicagoland resident, you are probably not surprised that a new traffic congestion study conducted by Texas A&M University’s Transportation Institute has labeled our city as one of the worst regions in the United States when it comes to traffic congestion and unreliable travel times.

For the region spanning northeastern Illinois and northwest Indiana, researchers have created a formula to help forecast travel times, and it is essentially a rule of four. Basically, if you record the amount of time it takes to make a trip during a period of light traffic, you can estimate the rush hour trip’s duration by multiplying the initial drive time by four.

While using this tool to plan ahead can help you ensure that you won’t be late for your new job in the Loop, not everyone will be so punctual. Anyone who has spent even a day commuting to work in a city like Chicago can likely recall seeing someone weaving in and out of traffic or speeding toward their destination. These erratic behaviors by drivers don’t only endanger themselves; they also increase the chances that everyone around them will be involved in a car accident.

Impatient and reckless driving accounted for a significant amount of the 918 traffic fatalities that occurred in Illinois last year, and unfortunately there is only so much we can do to stop it. Even if you decide to be safe and responsible behind the wheel, it is extremely difficult to predict when or where someone else’s carelessness can take you down with them. The nearly 1,000 traffic fatalities are bad enough, but our lawyers know that these accidents also leave thousands of innocent Illinois residents injured and unable to work and support either themselves or their families. Our Chicago personal injury lawyers have fought for accident victims for more than 20 years, and we have the experience and knowledge needed to get our clients the compensation they deserve.

For example, our attorneys handled a case for a 33-year-old woman, who was riding in the passenger seat of a car when it was flipped by a collision with another automobile. She suffered extensive injuries to her arm and was left with medical bills for multiple plastic and orthopedic surgeries. Our firm was able to recover a $820,000 settlement on her behalf, giving her peace of mind in settling her debts, and allowing her to return to as normal a way of life as possible.

If you are one of those lucky Chicagoland commuters, it’s always good to plan ahead, and please remember to be safe and responsible when driving.

When I originally commented I clicked the -Notify me when new comments are added- checkbox and now every time a comment is added I get four emails using the identical comment. Is there any way it is possible to get rid of me from that service? Thanks!
