Since the late sixties, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has ordered the recall of nearly 400 million cars, 46 million tires, and 66 million auto components for safety reasons. (National Highway Traffic Safety Administration)
Air bags are generally thought of as life saving devices, and normally they are, but already this year, Honda and Toyota have recalled 1.5 million vehicles citing air-bag-related safety concerns. 2012 saw more recalls involving air bags than any other year in history, with 22 different incidents across 18 car brands.
The problem isn’t that air bags are no longer being made with quality, but rather that car air bags are becoming increasingly complex. A recent study estimates that air bags are responsible for saving nearly 3,000 lives a year, however, in an effort to increase driver safety, more and more air bags are being packed into vehicles, and their designs are becoming more and more sophisticated, resulting in a greater likelihood of problems arising. Product liability laws apply to any car accident injury caused or exacerbated by a product defect, including errors in manufacturing, retail, design, and beyond. Proving to a jury that your injury was caused by a defective product can be tricky and that is why it is important to have an experienced team of lawyers on your side. Our Chicago-based lawyers have years of experience representing clients who have been seriously injured as a result of design defects in vehicles, and we have achieved a number of notable settlements in these cases. In one such case we received a $3 million settlement for the families of two victims of an Illinois car accident. The car manufacturer in question had improperly designed the car’s fuel delivery system, resulting in a fuel-fed fire that killed both occupants.
Injuries and deaths caused by automobile defects are devastating to families, both emotionally and financially. While our attorneys know that no amount of money can possibly replace a loved one, in the midst of tragedy, it can relieve your family’s financial stress, allowing you to focus on what is most important, each other.
