Teen Motorcyclist Killed After Collision With School Bus

When you are operating a vehicle as big, long and heavy as a bus in an urban city like Chicago, any number of things can lead to a collision. Typical situations that contribute to bus accidents include blocked bus lanes, unpredictable drivers, sudden lane change, pedestrians using bus lanes, speeding, bad weather, mechanical failures, and many others. Approximately 13,000 buses are involved in roadway accidents every year, with an estimated 300 of those crashes resulting in a fatality. What you might not know is that more than half of all bus accident fatalities and injuries are the result of occupants in regular motor vehicles, or pedestrians and bicyclists being hit. An 18-year-old motorcyclist was killed Wednesday morning after colliding with a school bus. According to reports from authorities, the accident occurred just before 11:00am at the intersection of Center and Chicago street when the rider failed to stop at a red light while heading southbound, running through the stoplight and striking the eastbound school bus. The victim was taken to Presence St. Joseph Hospital, where he was pronounced dead a short time later. The driver of the school bus was not injured in the accident; there were no children on the bus at the time of the incident. (Chicago Tribune)

The incredible mass of buses and other large vehicles can wreak havoc on cars, let alone the body of a pedestrian, cyclist or motorcyclist. For this reason, many victims of bus accidents suffer traumatic injuries that require a great deal of time, energy and money to deal with. For some, it can be years before they are able to regain the quality of life they enjoyed before their injuries. Many of the cases we handle involve clients who have been relegated to a hospital bed for months at a time, and require a great deal of care from the people around them to get better in a timely fashion. With no ability to work or generate income, the victims of these accidents can also accrue huge amounts of debt. For this reason, it is crucial that personal injury victims have some form of recourse to seek compensation for their hardships, and that is where we can help.

If you or one of your loved ones has sustained serious injuries due to someone else’s negligence on the road, you may be entitled to compensation for your hardships.
